Eco Easter Baskets
KEEPING EASTER FUN, DELICIOUS, AND SUSTAINABLE IS POSSIBLE!
There is no need to go buy a new Easter basket every year - the Easter Bunny is changing his ways and so can you! First, find something in your house that you already have, then fill it with shredded paper or some other earth-friendly grass, some candy in eco-packaging and enjoy!
Some ideas I have used for fun Easter “baskets” are:
a make-up case
a Converse shoe box
a wooden bowl
metal containers that holiday gifts came in
a planter
a laundry basket
Easter baskets from years past
and any other container lying around!
You can also thrift Easter baskets, plastic eggs, and fun vintage Easter items. When it comes to candy, look for the least amount of plastic packaging. If you buy candy in foil you can bundle all the foil up into a big ball, and that becomes recyclable. Some candy comes in egg cartons and other eco-friendly packaging. Instead of fancy plastic packaging like a plastic Pez dispenser, look for things that are not only for one-time use. Maybe a bamboo hairbrush, a fun pair of socks, new school pencils, a plant, flower seeds… think clean, fresh, earth-friendly. Skip the stuffed animal or plastic toy that will only entertain them for a few minutes before ending up in the landfill.
