Sustainability can be free!

NO COST WAYS TO BE AN ECO WARRIOR

There are many BEHAVIORS we can change to help the planet. Here are a few:

  • Take shorter showers - (under 10 minutes)

  • Turn the water off while brushing your teeth or in between rinsing dishes

  • Take water with you in a reusable bottle - don't buy drinks in plastic

  • Bring a reusable coffee mug when going to a coffee shop- don't generate more paper cup waste (by the way- most ARE NOT recyclable)

  • Take a reusable bag with you even when clothes shopping- no need for more bags at home

  • Use reusable produce bags instead of plastic ones

  • COMPOST your scraps- food in the trash breaks down into methane-it becomes toxic

  • Buy only what you need- groceries, clothes, office supplies etc...

  • Turn off lights when you aren't using them

  • Turn off sprinklers if it's going to rain

  • Ask for minimal packaging when ordering online

  • Remind your delivery or take-out orders NOT to pack plastic cutlery if you are eating at home

  • Have reusable cutlery and straws in your car or bag for food on the go

  • Find homes for your unwanted items, don’t just throw them out

  • Share and borrow things

  • Shop second hand and don't buy fast fashion if you can help it

  • Use what you have before buying more

  • Organize your things so you don't buy more of what you already have

  • Fix something or repurpose it instead of throwing it out and getting a new one

  • Don't buy seasonal decor- stores throw it all in the dumpster at the end of each season

  • Look at the packaging before you buy something- is there a similar item packaged with less waste?

  • Line dry some of your clothes- air dry all the thick stuff until it’s mostly dry, and then fluff it up in the dryer

  • When you shop, try to buy something well-made so it isn't used once and tossed

  • Reuse things that are in great shape like gift bags and banners

  • VINEGAR and BAKING SODA! Together, these two things clean just about everything with no chemicals and for very little $
