Plan Ahead to Reduce Plastic Use
Hello, friends! π Have you ever wondered about the impact of using plastic on our lovely planet and ourselves? Well I have thought a LOT about it, and Iβd love to share why cutting down on plastic can be a game-changer for both people and the planet. ππ
First off, plastic sticks around way longer than we want it to β we're talking hundreds of years! This persistence leads to harmful effects on our environment. For instance, plastic waste can find its way into our oceans, becoming a not-so-fun surprise for marine life. Fish might mistake those tiny plastic bits for food, and this can cause a whole chain reaction right up to our dinner plates. It has even been found in human breast milk!
But, here's where our innovative spirit kicks in. We can turn the tide (yes, pun intended) by embracing alternatives and reducing our plastic use. Imagine using products made from materials that love to break down naturally and go back to the earth, like bamboo toothbrushes or cotton shopping bags. It's like giving the planet a big, warm hug. π€
And guess what? Making these changes not only benefits our green and blue home but also us! Reducing plastic-use means less exposure to chemicals that can mess with our health. Plus, it feels pretty awesome to be part of a community that cares, innovates, and takes action for a brighter, cleaner future.
So, let's get curious and explore more ways to reduce our plastic footprint together. Every small change adds up to a big difference. Let's make our habitat a happy, healthy space for all its habitants. Ready to join the movement? πβ¨
Here are some ideas you can implement now:
Carry a reusable water bottle and coffee cup with you. There is an amazing one by Hitch that nests the coffee cup inside the water bottle (as featured in my lovely Instagram video).
Use real dishes or compostable dishes at events. Even Walmart has a compostable version.
Refill items at refill stations with your own glassware- great for things like spices and teas- where you may need just a pinch of a spice or want to avoid the toxic tea bags.
Use compostable snack, sandwich, and trash bags - I use Compostic and HoldOn
Use a paper bag in the recycle bin - plastic trash bags are not recyclable
Use eco-friendly paper towels and toilet paper- I use Reel but Who Gives A Crap is excellent too.
Put reusable utensils and straws in your bag or car for eating take-out.
Purchase refillable detergents and cleaners you can mix in your own bottles.
