Keep Recyclables Loose
Get ready for a recycling reality check!
Did you know that tossing your recyclables in plastic trash bags is a big no-no? Yep, that's right! Those handy bags might actually lead all your efforts straight to the landfill. This common practice lacks clear guidance on proper recycling methods. If recyclable materials are sealed in plastic garbage bags, they are likely to end up in landfills. Due to the lack of resources to open each bag, remove its contents, and discard the non-recyclable garbage bags, the recycling process is hindered. Let's keep it simple: dump your goodies loose into the recycling bin or pop them in a paper bag. Just make sure they're clean, dry, and not smaller than a deck of cards. Say goodbye to tiny bottle caps and paper bits - they're just too puny for recycling! To keep those recycle machines humming sweetly, stick to the recycling VIP list: glass jars, aluminum cans, specific plastics, and clean paper. Remember, the recycling machine is not a fan of small, sticky, or stretchy stuff- so resist the urge to 'wishcycle' and stick to the rules to keep the recycling magic alive!
Keep recyclables loose in the outside bin without a bag or use a paper bag to line your bin
Ensure items are clean, dry, and larger than a deck of cards
Do not include small items like plastic bottle caps or scraps of paper as they can fall through the machine grates (shredded paper should go in a paper bag)
Do not put cling wraps, dry clean bags, any kind of grocery store plastic bag including produce bags- these all jam up the wheels of the machine
